Let's begin by being clear that the Endangered Feces in the title of this best-of compilation find an all-too literal realization about halfway into this painfully hilarious DVD. Of course, we mean "painful" literally too: Tom Green has one of those senses of humor that makes you cringe in horror while laughing yourself to hysterics. Funnier yet is to watch Green's parents respond. They're so used to his over-the-edge pranks that they greet graphic lesbian pornography painted on the hood of their car or a house full of barnyard animals with a certain blasé, we've-seen-it-all reserve. The DVD features a full palette of Green's repertoire, from staggering drunkenly about town at night in drag to a guitar ballad sung at the tattooed buttocks of his best friend. One of the funniest, and more sophisticated, stunts involves hanging a painting he made on a blank wall in Ottawa's National Gallery and returning a week later to distress museum visitors by adding details to it with a Magic Marker. Needless to say, Green spends a fair amount of time on this DVD running from security guards. The DVD extras include outtakes from Green's appearances on Open Mike with Mike Bullard and The Dini Petty Show. Definitely not for everybody, The Very Worst of Tom Green will bring some of you to tears laughing--and you know who you are. --Erik Macki

From Candid Camera to American Idol, American television viewers' appetite for watching other folks get embarrassed, humiliated, or worse at the hands of both themselves and others never seems to wane. How else to explain the fact that MTV's Jackass, a show built on dangerous, painful, and stupid stunts, could spawn not only a feature film but a spin-off like Viva La Bam, issued here in a three-disc set compiling the show's fourth and fifth seasons with extensive bonus material? This is classic MTV fare, made by and for slackers, stoners, and skateboarders, the tattoo and heavy metal crowd who get off on the kind of jejune, puerile behavior that Bam Margera and his crew celebrate in every one of these 16 episodes. A combination of The Tom Green Show, Paris Hilton's The Simple Life, and the aforementioned Jackass, Viva La Bam is hardly what one would call innocent, but it's neither as cruel nor as mean-spirited as others of its ilk. It focuses less on outrageous stunts than on Bam's good-natured tormenting of his family, including mother April ("Ape"), dad Phil, and especially uncle-clown Don Vito (the latter two have a combined girth roughly equal to the Earth's circumference); in the two-parter that opens the fourth season, for instance, they follow Phil and Ape to Europe (later adventures take them to Brazil, Mexico, Finland, and Russia), wreaking havoc everywhere they go and pretty much living up to the stereotypical image of the boorish, ignorant American abroad. There are guest appearances by rockers like the Bloodhound Gang, Hanoi Rocks, HIM, the cartoonish Gwar, and even Billy Idol, along with ace stunt bikers the Metal Mulisha, but unless your idea of hilarity involves folks dumping food on one another (even better if the dumpee is asleep), Viva La Bam's appeal will be limited, to say the least. On the other hand, folks who do enjoy that kind of thing should be delighted. The third disc is comprised of over two hours of bonus material, including deleted scenes and commentary by Bam and the gang. --Sam Graham

Hosted by rapper Xzibit, Pimp My Ride is not your mother's car improvement program. It's more like a hip-hop Queer Eye for the Straight Guy--with autos and automotive experts--than, say, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Or as the theme song puts it, "So you wanna be a playa / But ya wheels ain't fly / Ya gotta hit us up / To get a pimped out ride." In each installment, Xzibit, aka "X to the Z," hooks up with the crew at L.A.'s West Coast Customs: Ryan (owner), Q (manager), Mad Mike (electronics), Big Dane (accessories), Aren (paint and body), Ish (interiors), and Alex (wheels and tires). The California-based car owners selected as subjects range in age from 18-24 and most are students on a limited budget. All have rides in need of some serious pimping.

Take the ride featured in the first episode: Wyatt's 1988 Daihatsu Hi-Jet. The musician's "micro-van" is held together with duct tape, sheet metal, and calking. Friend Nathan describes it as "a toaster rolling on donuts." You won't recognize it when the West Coast crew gets finished with it. Now it's tricked out with silver flames, big rim tires, video monitors, a wraparound couch, a refrigerator, a DVD changer, an MP3 player, and a boomin' stereo system. It's the same for every ride they pimp: Mary's 1967 Ford Mustang, Jared's 1985 Ford Ranger, Danelle's 1981 Pontiac Trans Am, Neil's 1974 Chevy "Luv" Truck, Krissy's 1969 Volkswagen Baja Bug, etc.

The first season of Pimp My Ride features 15 rides, all transformed from pathetic hunks of junk into slammin' wheels with crazy extras like turntables, ping pong tables, espresso makers, chandeliers, and lava lamps. There are a couple of ways to look at Tough Enough, MTV and the WWF's collaborative effort to join the fantasy worlds of sports-entertainment wrestling and reality television. To cynics (and hard-core wrestling fans), this is a cheap attempt by both companies to try to capitalize on the reality-TV fad. On paper it reads like Big Brother meets Smackdown: 13 would-be wrestlers are trapped inside a house trying to pick each other off and win a guaranteed WWF contract. Meanwhile, to ensure wrestling fans will watch, a different WWF superstar (Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Hardy Boyz) pops by each episode to offer encouragement or demean their efforts. Now, wrestling fans will complain (accurately) that in no way does this resemble the path wrestlers take to make it to the WWF. These folks have been afforded luxuries that many of the viewers at home lack (nice house, free food, a hot tub, etc.). In this respect, nothing about Tough Enough is real.

However, if you're a casual fan of wrestling and are interested in how wrestlers train or would like to peak behind the "fake" curtain and see how these performers work, the show is endlessly entertaining. After a couple of episodes, the first thing that is apparent is that though the world of wrestling is "fake" entertainment, it is by no means easy. Judges are supposed to vote contestants off after each episode, but in many cases, the poor kids quit due to injury or lack of desire. As a typical MTV-style reality soap opera, the show is less successful. The focus here is on wrestling, not love affairs and petty arguments (though there are a few here and there). But if you want a small glimpse of what it takes to be a WWF superstar, this is a good place to start. --Dave McCoy
