Green. Mean. Not so lean..
Rating: 4Say what you want about this film. I purchased this Blu-ray as a guilty pleasure, but the good news is its video and audio are great. As one of Universal Studios' first Blu-ray discs this is excellent. Again, the movie is not without its detractors, but as a show piece this disc shines thanks to the wonderful picture quality and exemplary DTS-MA audio track. The extras, while modest, are entertaining and the only arguable thing about the disc is that its menu system mirrors those from the Mummy movies - same sounds and layout. Hopefully, Universal will entertain the possibility of original and impressive departures from this menu template. Not much else to say other than, "If you liked it in theaters, you'll love it on Blu-ray."

Hulk.
Rating: 3The special effects in this movie make it a "I wanna see it" flick. The storyline is ponderous at times and altogether predictable.

Great Movie/Blu-ray Difficulties.
Rating: 2I absolutely love this movie, BUT, unfortunately, I think I've received a bad batch of Blu-ray discs from Amazon. After three minutes of waiting for the movie to load, the first one would cause the Sony Blu-ray player to automatically reboot once the movie starts, no matter if it started from the beginning or at a random chapter. It wouldn't happen when I would play the Extras, only the movie. I asked for and received within 48 hours a replacement Blu-ray disc and encountered the same exact problem. And I know it's not the player, because I played other Blu-ray discs with no problems. Hopefully, I'll get to see it on Blu-ray soon because from what I saw on the opening menu, the movie looked great.

True to the classic comic title.
Rating: 5While most people out there will tell you that this film isn't very good or even that it's downright bad, the majority of those people didn't/don't ever read the original comic series for the Hulk. The stories of the Hulk aren't about a costumed hero fighting criminals. They are about a man consumed with anger, who is driven to great lengths trying to deal w/his affliction, and the villainous characters who attempt to take advantage of Hulk and his gamma-powered strength. This film is about as "deep" as one could want from a film about a "superhero", while retaining it's strong comicbook feel.
Ang Lee's direction in this film is evident in it's character-driven plot, sensitive view of the relationship between father/child, and the traumatic effects of coming from a home broken by tragedy. The film has amazing performances by Eric Bana (Bruce Banner), Jennifer Connelly (Betty Ross), and Sam Elliot (General Ross). Bana's Banner is an intelligent and principled man who struggles deeply w/feelings of abandonement. Connelly plays a woman who has struggled to help a man torn apart by anger and doubt, with compassion and understanding. Sam Elliott turns in another fantastic performance as General Ross - a fiery, old soldier who's anger towards and distrust of Banner are softened by his deep-seated affection for his daughter.
This film is a great example of how the comicbook movie need not be riddled with comedic undertones and can still draw in those w/an open mind - truly, a modern classic.
