DescriptionThis hilarious gay romantic-comedy follows Ethan Green, an adorable 26-year year old professional assistant looking for love in all the wrong places. A self-proclaimed serial monogamist, Ethan finds that no boyfriend is really "the one". -Based on the popular cult comic strip by Eric Orner, published since 1990 -Loaded with laugh-out-loud bonus features Amazon.comBased on Eric Ormer's comic strip, The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green is an almost fluffy romantic comedy starring Ethan (Daniel Letterle), a gay man whose trials and tribulations amount to not much more than difficulties in dating and finding a rented apartment. Leo (David Monahan), Ethan's ex-boyfriend, is selling the house Ethan currently resides in, while Ethan enters a whirlwind romance with baseball fetishist, Kyle (Diego Serrano). While Ethan debates where to live, he dumps Kyle and starts dating Punch (Dean Shelton), a cute, young real estate agent who hatches a plan to sabotage Leo's intentions to sell the property. The finest moments of this situational comedy occur when the Hat Sisters (Joel Brooks and Richard Riehle), a pair of cross-dressing, older lovers, are on screen cracking jokes and looking like Erma Bombeck. Meanwhile, Ethan's mom (Meredith Baxter) advises him to seek courage in order to find the right man, as Ethan tires of the dating game. Director George Bamber's adaptation is entertaining, though the entertainment feels as if its at the expense of some characters who are the most stereotypically gay. Because of the film's employment of stereotypes, it's difficult to sympathize with Ethan's plight. Clearly not meant to challenge intellectually, Ethan Green does contain some endearing scenes that make it mostly fun to watch. --Trinie Dalton

DescriptionMatthew Bourne, director and choreographer of Adventures in Motion Pictures--a maverick new modern dance company based in London--brings a new twist to an old classic with this production of "Swan Lake." Taking advantage of the public's preoccupation with the ups and downs of the royal family, Bourne has set his story in the modern era and has cast all the swans--including the Odette/Odile role--as males. Boutne's creation brings great ballet to an audience it has never before reached, and for cognoscenti offers a new view of the breadth of possibilty in Tchaikovsky's well-loved score. "Swan Lake" enjoyed a sold-out run in London and a subsequent critically acclaimed and public-adored Broadway stint. Amazon.comSwan Lake became an unexpected popular hit when radical choreographer Matthew Bourne took Tchaikovsky's traditional ballet by the scruff of the neck and reworked it with a myriad of modern influences and themes to astonishing effect. Seldom have the dark psychological riptides at the heart of so many classical ballets been so brilliantly exposed. The Prince (Scott Ambler) is a wretched and dissolute young man dominated by his mother, the Joan Collins-like Queen (Fiona Ambler). Shades of Tennessee Williams, indeed. Von Rothbart becomes a press secretary, more sinister eminence grise than hissable villain. Most startling of all, the Swan (Adam Cooper) is a muscular, emphatically masculine male. Bourne has stressed the universality of his interpretation, which proved such a success for his Adventures in Motion Pictures dance company. And indeed this is never an overtly "gay" Swan Lake, although the electricity of the pas de deux at the height of Act 2 delivers a palpably homoerotic charge. Its universal threads--as Bourne suggests, the need to be held and understood is common to us all--are synthesized in the utterly moving conclusion as the Swan cradles the lifeless Prince and raises him to a better place. Swan Lake becomes a human, rather than simply romantic, tragedy. --Piers Ford

Amazon.comParty Monster is a curiosity: a fictional version of events already covered in documentary form (see Party Monster: The Shockumentary) by this film's co-directors, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, best known for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Party Monster, theatrically released in 2003, also signals the return of Macaulay Culkin to films after a long absence. Culkin plays 1980s club kid-turned-killer Michael Alig, a small-town boy who arrives in New York in search of reinvention on the Ecstasy-fueled party scene. Alig ascends from rube to ringmaster, organizing Fabulous happenings and anointing, in Warhol-like fashion, various transvestites and studly naifs the era's new superstars. Seth Green plays Alig's arch but more reticent co-conspirator and roommate, James St. James. Green is more grounded in character than Culkin, though neither actor is convincing as a deluded drag queen. Despite interesting material, the directors never reveal what makes Alig a compelling figure in Manhattan's social history. --Tom Keogh

Product DescriptionThe story of Paul Verlaine's indulgent affair with Arthur Rimbaud. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and David Thewlis.Running Time: 112 min.System Requirements:Running Time 112 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: R UPC: 794043485022 Amazon.comThis biographical account of the tempestuous, taboo-shattering love affair between two 19th century French poets--Paul Verlaine (David Thewlis) and Arthur Rimbaud (Leonardo DiCaprio)--didn't do much at the box office when it was released in 1995. But after the success of Titanic, it became somewhat infamous when Playgirl magazine announced its intention to publish nude pictures of DiCaprio taken from the film. (Nobody much seemed to care that Thewlis, who also starred in Mike Leigh's Naked, also appears nude in Total Eclipse.) The truth is, the nudity in question only lasts for a few frames, but it's certainly in character for the young wild-man Rimbaud. Directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa, Europa, The Secret Garden), Total Eclipse begins in 1870 when the newly married Verlaine is 24 and Rimbaud is 17. The volatile combination of their reckless passions, idiosyncratic talents, and obnoxious egos is a recipe for disaster--and l'amour fou--culminating in a two-year prison term for Verlaine who was convicted of sodomy. DiCaprio's work in this film (as well as This Boy's Life, What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, and The Basketball Diaries) proves he is a serious actor who's interested in risky, challenging work--not just the matinee idol he became in the wake of Titanic. --Jim Emerson

The result of years of research and production, She Stole My Voice: A Documentary About Lesbian Rape is a jarring, terrifying, and eye-opening look at this lesbian rape and sexual violence between women. The film masterfully interweaves community responses, expert analyses, and graphic reenactments to create an absolutely unforgettable experience. And in the unforgettable and terrifyingly graphic reenactments of lesbian rape, viewers will begin to truly understand the chilling and horrific experience of actual lesbian rape.

DescriptionHailed as the first mainstream film to put a human face on the AIDS epidemic, Longtime Companion is a "remarkable" (Newsweek) drama that takes an honest, unflinching look at how this devastating disease changes everyone it touches. "Intelligent, unflinching and unpatronizing" (Boxoffice), and starring a "terrific ensemble cast" (Time), including OscarÂ(r) nominee* and Golden Globe winner** Bruce Davison, Campbell Scott, Dermot Mulroney and Mary-Louise Parker, this heartrending yet triumphant film "is an illuminating, deeply moving experience" (Los Angeles Times). During the summer of 1981, a group of friends in New York are completely unprepared for the onslaught of AIDS. What starts as a rumor about a mysterious "gay cancer" soon turns into a major crisis as, one by one, some of the friends begin to fall ill, leaving the others to panic about who will be next. As death takes its toll, the lives of these friends are forever redefinedby an unconditional display, of love, hope and courage. *1990: Supporting Actor, Longtime Companion **1990: Supporting Actor, Longtime Companion Amazon.com essential videoThe late director Norman Rene and writer Craig Lucas made a pretty fine creative team on the stage and in the movies, and this 1990 drama about the evolving impact of AIDS on gay New Yorkers is their best cinematic achievement. The ensemble story follows the lives of nine or so characters as word of the so-called "gay cancer" eventually becomes a real force, killing several of them as the years go by. The film works well on a number of levels, not least of which is the enviable closeness of the characters, the script's wit, the bittersweet experience of loss, and a celebratory attitude at the end mixing wisdom with defiance. --Tom Keogh

Description(Gay & Lesbian) Since its premiere in 2005, "Dante’s Cove" has grown from a cult sensation to a gay cultural phenomenon. Fun and provocative, the show has seduced thousands with its unabashed and unapologetic delivery of sex and camp, placing itself as the ultimate guilty pleasure. Season 2 is even more outrageous with the introduction of more deadly secrets, more intriguing twists and most importantly, more hot-bodied stars! Amazon.comHave you ever said to yourself, "Gee, I like the overwrought soap opera of Melrose Place--if only it had explicit gay sex and supernatural storylines..."? Dante's Cove is for you! Come to this semi-tropical paradise and watch with glee as warlock Ambrosius (William Gregory Lee, formerly Virgil on Xena: Warrior Princess) uses his dark magic to pursue the hunky blond Kevin (Gregory Michael, As the World Turns) while fighting with Grace (Tracy Scoggins, The Colbys, Babylon 5), the powerful witch to whom Ambrosius was engaged...until she caught him in flagrante with a man. Meanwhile, Kevin's lover Toby (Charlie David, host of Crash Test Mommy) struggles to protect Kevin with the help of Van (Nadine Heimann), a newly-minted witch whose dabbling in magic threatens to wreck her relationship with magic-phobe Iowa girl Michelle (Erin Cummings, After Midnight: Life Behind Bars). And what are the schemes of Diana (Thea Gill, The L-Word), the mysterious woman who runs the historical society? Punctuating all of this angst and glowering are copious man-on-man sex scenes with a wee bit of woman-on-woman thrown in to round things out. The special effects are cheap, the dialogue obvious yet confusing, the plot lurches around like a drunk with his foot in a bucket, and the acting...well, let's just say the cast is very pretty to look at. The five episodes of Dante's Cove - the Complete Second Season follow a two-episode first season (more of a pilot, really); the story threads, such as they are, will make just as much sense whether you've seen Season One or not. There are several behind-the-scenes extra features on the dvd; most are the usual "I'm so happy to be on this great show!" stuff, but the most interesting one interviews several cast members about being openly gay actors. --Bret Fetzer

Product DescriptionFascinating belgian coming-of-age film about a boy struggling with his identity and the drastic effects it has on his family. Special features: widescreen version dolby surround sound subtitles: english french and spanish. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 06/24/2008 Run time: 88 minutes Rating: R Amazon.comOne of the sweetest films to emerge from Europe in the 1990s, Alain Berliner's Ma Vie en Rose is the story of an innocent little boy, Ludovic (played with noncloying directness by Georges Du Fresne), who wants to be a girl. Convinced that he's the product of misplaced chromosomes (he imagines the mix-up in one of many delightful daydream sequences), he sets about righting the mistake by wearing dresses and high heels and experimenting with lipstick and makeup. The otherwise friendly suburban neighborhood becomes horrified by the gender confusion, though tellingly the cruelest blows come not from the teasing classmates but intolerant adults: one scene recalls the torch-and-pitchfork angry villagers from a Frankenstein movie. Ludo tries hard to be butch, but he can't deny his nature, especially when he meets a kindred spirit: a little girl who gladly trades her dress for his pants and shirt. This bittersweet mix of innocent fantasy and childhood cruelty has its moments of sadness and crushing misunderstandings, but the overall tone is loving, filled with tenderness and culminating in acceptance and togetherness. As the family stumbles and struggles to come to terms with Ludo, they find something special within him, an innocent conviction so powerful and pure that it's infectious. Ludo may not grow up to become a girl as he hopes, but his belief is so strong it's hard to deny him the possibility. This films reminds us that, to a child, anything is possible. --Sean Axmaker
